ARP LAUNCHES START THE CONVERSATION MUSIC PROJECT WITH CONCERT AT INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCE IN TORONTO
July 11, 2006

Los Angeles, CA - AIDS Responsibility Project (ARP) will launch its "Start the Conversation" initiative with a concert to celebrate ARP Productions' release of a 12-track CD entitled What Are We Living For, with songs written and performed by an array of talented young artists whose performances target the hip hop and youth culture.  The concert will take place at Toronto's newest and most vibrant club, Purgatory, from 9-11pm on Tuesday, August 15, 2006.

The purpose of What Are We Living For is to "Start the Conversation" about HIV - how to avoid it, how to live with it, how not to spread it, and the importance of being honest about one's own risk of becoming infected. ARP has partnered with platinum-record producer Donald "XL" Robertson to use music, film, and the Internet to develop new and more effective ways to communicate prevention messages to those most at risk for becoming infected with HIV.

ARP is targeting young people generally, with a particular US focus on African-Americans because they are most at-risk for becoming infected while simultaneously being less likely to be reached by traditional education and prevention messages.  The International AIDS Conference takes place every other year and is the largest gathering of people from around the world who work directly or indirectly on HIV/AIDS issues including researchers, activist, community workers and political leaders.

Partnership with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's)
ARP is partnering with many Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to reach out to African-American students with education and prevention messages. ARP will use town hall meetings and the START THE CONVERSATION music in conjunction with a KNOW YOUR STATUS voluntary testing program to give students the tools they need to gauge their own awareness of HIV/AIDS issues.
